Many poor families spend an entire month’s income to send one child to school, leaving little, or nothing to buy food or pay for other needs. Faced with this choice many families do not enroll their children in school once they can begin helping with chores at home.
This project will provide 10 children with yearly scholarships for grades 6 through 9 when they are the most vulnerable for dropping out and losing the opportunity for a bright future. Scholarships will provide for school fees, supplies, uniform, health insurance, and school activities.
Join Ed, and donate to this project to ensure 10 children receive the education they need to pursue better lives and have a bright future.
This project will provide the needed funding for 10 disadvantaged children to complete their education from 6th to the 9th grade so that they are prepared to pass the mandatory high school entrance exams and acquire skills to advance to a bright future. Scholarships will provide:
• School Fees
• School Activities
• Health Care Insurance
• Accident Insurance
• Textbooks
• Notebooks
• School Uniforms
• Reference Books, Pens, & Other Supplies
The fees associated with schooling in Vietnam can often make education unaffordable. Without an education, these children face a future of continued poverty and are vulnerable to an array of difficult life circumstances such as trafficking, drug abuse, and unemployment. Children in lower secondary grade, which begins in 6th grade, are particularly at-risk. By the time 6th grade is reached 41% of males and 43% of females do not attend school. These children stop studying and learning when they are only eleven years old!
There is no better investment to create a self-sufficient future for a child than to provide an education.
Children of Vietnam will work with local officials and school personnel to identify 10 children who meet the following criteria:
• Children of poor families with income per month under 700.000 VND ($40 USD)
• Orphan children or those living with only one parent or with a relative
• Children whose parents have health or disability problems
• 50% of scholarship recipients will be female
Once identified, Children of Vietnam staff will meet with each child and his/her parents to confirm their commitment. The scholarship will be renewed each year from 6th to 9th grade as long as the child attends school and receives good grades. Children of Vietnam staff will monitor the child’s progress through cooperation with the school.
