The project will provide basic sanitation and land development infrastructure. Building roof rainwater harvesting facilities will increase and improve the available drinking water. Toilet facilities, and general village cleaning will improve the health of the village. Repairing and building farm ponds and agricultural training will increase the quality and quantity of crops for small farmers and agricultural workers.
Kate & John's project in Kapurashi will support the following improvements:
• Roof rainwater harvesting tanks: 10
• Sanitation facilities:10
• Farm pond construction: 3
• Agricultural trainings : 2
Kapurashi is experiencing a critical water and sanitation problem. There is no plumbing or public works infrastructure in the village, and current water sources are drying out. Women are spending 3–4 hours a day collecting drinking water for their families, and the shortage of water has left the Kapurashi community unable to regularly clean and wash regularly.
The lack of water greatly contributes to the health and sanitation problem. Community members are forced to walk to the village outskirts to relieve themselves in effort to avoid contaminating water sources, and children often have to leave class due to the school’s lack of sanitation facilities. This lack of basic sanitation has dramatically increased the infection rate of disease throughout the village, in addition to affecting the productivity of adults and schooling of children in the community
A SEWA engineer will oversee the construction of all projects in Kapurashi, and arrange the purchase and transportation of materials from local vendors. Workers from Kapurashi village will be hired to complete the construction and masonry for each project.
