Extreme Recess gives children with physical and developmental challenges the opportunity to participate in sports, often for the very first time. Our 3rd annual Extreme Recess Water Skiing Event will be the biggest event we have this year, since it is the most known and we will need a lot of funding to make it a successful event. It is not just a Water Skiing event. It is a beach day! We have a variety of water sports, as well as arts and crafts, and various entertainments for the children. Since it does not focus solely on one event, like our other Extreme Recess events do, we need more funds, to be able to pull a day like this off.
Children with disabilities and their families will benefit from this project. It will give them an opportunity to enjoy themselves free of limitations.
− All the funds raised will cover the expenses of this Extreme Recess Water Skiing Event. The kids participate in a day filled with water skiing, jet skiing, kayaking, canoeing, and fishing, which is just the water portion of the day. We will have arts and crafts as well as a moon bounce and other activities for the kids to partake in. Any Child with a disability between the ages of 4-24 shows up at Pohick Park Bay, ready for a day at the “beach”! There is a number of boats, kayaks, fishing rods, jet skis, canoes and of course life vest to keep all our kids safe. All our events are free and we do provide lunch, snacks and beverages for all our participants. Food is purchased from local restaurants, and snacks and beverages are bought at costcos the week of the event, which include but aren’t limited to water bottles, fruit snacks and oatmeal bars. All money raised will go towards the renting the Venue, Pohick Bay, getting the food, from restaurants in the area, costcos, etc. buying arts and crafts, renting the equipment and other miscellaneous things.
Extreme Recess Water Skiing celebrates the unique ability in all children and helps them turn the adversity in their lives into opportunity. With over 12,000 children currently living with disabilities in DC and similar stats for surrounding counties, it is vital that we spread awareness about the importance and power that athletics can play in the lives of children with disabilities.
