In 2007, Santa María Education Center began operating in Pachacutec, one of Peru's growing shantytowns, to combat the dangerous conditions facing the area's families. The following January, work began to construct a permanent center that could potentially serve 650 impoverished students. As part of this larger effort, this project will provide 5 recently constructed classrooms in the Santa María Education Center with tables, chairs, whiteboards and bookshelves. These classrooms are currently not being used due to their lack of equipment. This project will enable them to open and operate so that 175 more students can enroll in the center and receive the benefits of its instruction and resources.
The 5 prepared classrooms will each be equipped with tables, chairs, bookshelves, and whiteboards that are necessary for holding classes.
Amongst Pachacutec's poorest residents, children remain particularly vulnerable. Not only do the young face serious health risks that result from malnutrition and unsanitary living conditions, but they also are likely to be deprived of the education that could brighten their futures. By funding the materials that will equip 5 more of Santa María Education Center's classrooms, one Citizen Philanthropist will ensure 175 children will receive the educational and nutritional assets they need to pursue better lives.
The process of equipping the selected classrooms will follow Coprodeli guidelines. Local labor and businesses will be used to both produce and install the necessary equipment. This process will be supervised by Coprodeli to ensure it is completed in a timely manner without interrupting ongoing classes.
