The Dungra community relies on its village well as the main source of portable water. Recent droughts have made water scarce in the area and forced women to spend 5 hours traveling to the village's outskirts to collect enough water for their family's daily use.
This project will construct 2 hand pump wells in the village to ensure the Dungra families have reliable access to convenient, clean drinking water. Each hand pump will serve 20 families and significantly reduce the time needed to collect village water.
This project will construct two wells with attached hand pumps to facilitate easy water procurement in Dungra. The engineering team will drill approximately 25–30 feet beneath the surface and attach the hand pumps that will extract the groundwater.
Dungra does not have plumbing, irrigation, or the other infrastructure needed to provide community member with access to water. Water used for drinking, cooking, agriculture, and cleaning relies on the monsoon rains. As a result, recent droughts and an increasingly-shorter monsoon season have created a severe water shortage in Dungra.
A SEWA engineer will oversee a technician team from Dungarpar to drill and create the wells. Local workers from Dungra village will also be hired to complete the construction and assemble the hand pump in the well sites.
