The Centro de Atención Externa (Youth Outreach Center) in Subtanjalla, Peru is working to ensure that the basic needs of the area's at-risk children are met. The CAE is currently located in a temporary structure with particle board walls, a thatched roof, and a concrete floor. These buildings have limited running water and entirely lack electricity. This project will fund the equipment that is necessary to the successful operation of the center's cafeteria and nutritional program.
Project funds will provide the CAE cafeteria with tables, benches, chairs, service carts, and table settings. Join Janet, and ensure the at-risk children of Subtanjalla have a healthy environment in which they can eat their meals.
This project will improve the learning environment for at-risk youth in Subtanjalla by fully equipping the
the CAE or Youth Outreach Center cafeteria with tables, benches, chairs, service carts, and table settings.
Education in the Ica region has been severely disrupted due to the destruction of the majority of schools, leading to indefinite closures, insufficient capacity, and unstable infrastructure. Many schools have been forced to run half-day shifts, leaving students vulnerable to delinquency, drug use, association with gangs, abuse and child labor. The CAE’s cafeteria will be central to combating this trend. By providing at-risk children with meals in a secure space, the fully operating cafeteria will provide a critical foundation for the center’s nutritional program.
Once equipment is purchased, Coprodeli staff and local volunteers will assemble and install equipment as needed. The Center's staff volunteers will also be trained in the new resources' maintenance, cleaning, sanitation and storage.
Washington, DC
About Me: I’m a native Washingtonian born to Latin American parents from Puerto Rico and Guatemala. I am a proud mother of three wonderful kids. I’m fortunate to be married 11 years to my Peruvian husband Adan Tafur; as a result, Peru is my adopted country. I have traveled to several countries in Latin America and have been witness of the immense poverty and suffering that children suffer day-to-day in other countries like Peru. The 2007 earthquake in Peru’s southern region left much of the infrastructure destroyed and to this day, many families still live in shacks, tents and schools have not yet been repaired. Since I know first hand this is a truth, I feel that the only way I can give back is to muster all of my contacts and dedicate some of my own time and give back! I can’t wait for the moment to see this project come to fruition. I’m calling all my previous contacts in radio, television, non-profits and friends to help me in this fundraising journey for the children of Ica. Join my children Adam, Zachary and Chloe and my husband Adan as we add our little grain of salt the next few months.
