Peru’s southern provinces of Cañete and Chincha are continuing to recover from a 2007 earthquake that devastated the regions and left the majority of their residents impoverished. Coprodeli is working to improve the quality of life of the provinces’ populations, but cultural norms, limited health care providers, and misinformation leave many, especially young women, vulnerable to STDs. This project will be part of a larger effort to provide basic primary health care to twelve of the provinces’ districts through mobile medical outreach campaigns. It will specifically provide the campaigns with a specialist who will be dedicated to raising awareness regarding the prevention and treatment of STDs. The project will ensure that the selected volunteer is trained and equipped with sufficient materials to perform 200 outreach missions over the course of a year. Become the Citizen Philanthropist for this project and ensure that one specialist is prepared to educate and treat 752 residents of Cañete and Chincha in the proper methods in preventing and coping with STDs.
