Improving Household Sanitation in Central Vietnam

Dear Jamie & Kathy - Team Edelman,

We recently learned of some news that impacts the Khue Dong toilet project that is good news for the families. The Da Nang city government has identified the Khue Dong village for redevelopment within the next two years. Khue Dong is 1 of 16 residence this under plan of clearance. All families in this area will be moved to a new location and the houses destroyed. Part of the rational for the redevelopment is that this area is flooded each year (sometimes 2 or 3 times each year) from the heavy rains and monsoons forcing the families to flee their homes or live temporarily on upper lofts while the 3 to 4 feet of flood water recedes.

The good news is that the families will receive new land in an area that is not prone to flooding. Also, they will cash payments that will allow them construct new homes including an indoor toilet. You can be assured that the health and wellbeing of the families who are recipients of the toilets you have provided has already improved greatly and will continue to do so until their move. They are ever grateful,"
