Update on your Udaan Education Program project!

We've recieved this update from CARE India, our partner on the ground in Uttar Pradesh.

Ellen Carmichael of CARE India writes;

"Thank you for fundraising for the Udaan program. This is an ongoing program, and your support for this project allows it to continue.

Since the Udaan program started in 1999, twelve groups of around 100 girls each have successfully graduated from Udaan in Upper Pradesh and moved on to upper primary education and higher studies. The Udaan program has shown to be so successful that CARE India is working to open up new schools!!"

Update from the Udaan school

Thank you for fundraising for the Udaan program. This is an ongoing program, and your support for this project allows it to continue. Your funds have been transferred to CARE and you will receive periodic updates on the impact this program is having on the lives of girls in Uttar Pradesh.

During the 2010-2011 academic year, 100 girls attended the Udaan school, recruited from different blocks in Hordoi district in Uttar Pradesh. Ninety-eight of those 100 girls successfully passed the year-end exam!! Read more in the full post on the progress of the program and one girl's boundary breaking journey to become educated.

22% Towards Our Goal

Thanks to all the private donations and support for the last race. We are making slow progress towards our goal of $534. My next race is in two weeks and we could use the support. So if you are on line please donate to help a girl get the opportunity to attend primary school. The impact this has on a girl and her community is immense. We take this for granted her in the US...and having a daughter about to start school made me think about what it would be like and what I would do if the ability to attend school did not exist for her.

1st Run for PaulOutLoud tomorrow

Getting ready to head out on my first official race/run. I am excited. I will be heding into the district about 0700 tomorrow for The DASH 10K & Kids Run Washington DC. I have collected some local donations but still looking for a few good souls to donate to the Udaan Girls Education Program. I am in the process of teaming up with some people to design and sell t-shirts to support the cause. Something vintage I hope. I also have a new blog about life in the district. Udaan Girls Education Project Sangria Splash

Last night we held a Sangria Splash with several of our friends here in the DC area. The purpose of this event was to spread awareness of our efforts to raise money for the Udaan Girls Education Project. The event had an international food flavor and lasted well into the night. Overall I think we were successful in getting people to help spread the word about the Udaan Girls education project and hopefully soon donation will be coming in. It is hard to believe that $534 can make such a difference in a girl life and the positive impact it will have on her community. This is my first blog for the project and I will try to get some photos and articles of interest in the future. Now let I just need to get out and run my first 5K to support this fund raising effort.
