Congratulations on raising the funds for this well. The funds have been transferred to SEWA and discussions are underway with the village about the deepening of the well.

There has been some delay in the start of this work as SEWA is ensuring the community is bought in to the approach to well repair before work commences. This is important to the sustainability of the solution. The attached letter is from a recent village meeting where the villagers vetoed one of the wells under consideration because the well owner would not agree that the well could be used by women of all castes.

SEWA's work in the village is not only improving the lives of the villagers, but also has been important in helping villagers understand that all people, regardless of caste, have equal rights.

Discussions are now underway with a second well owner and we anticipate that the work will begin in the spring so it is completed before the monsoon season. Please check back in the new year for updates from SEWA on the progress of the well repair.
