Wyoming
About Me: DORLY PISKE, a native of Brazil, moved to Laramie WY in 1985 after attending graduate school at Kansas State University. She currently teaches Portuguese at Laramie County Community College and Intensive English at the University of Wyoming. She is president of the Wyoming Chapter of Partners of the Americas, and has been instrumental in facilitating collaborations that link Wyoming with Goiás and other states in Brazil through academic, cultural, and sports exchanges. Volunteering has been a way of life for Dorly and she strives to bring more volunteers to the organization. The bio-jewelry project she launched in 2008 combines the current emphasis on youth leadership development with (international) community service. Proceeds from the sale of the biojewelry go to purchase a mammography unit for the De Peito Aberto program of the Federal University of Goiás to implement a rural travelling mammography program. Through Dorly’s leadership, WY-POA is closely involved with UW Service, Leadership and Community Engagement SLCE to develop exchanges/internships in Brazil, in addition to advising a new student chapter of WY-POA. Engagement with youth also occurs through participation in the Youth Ambassadors program as coordinator, having hosted three different groups and mentored one group abroad in Ecuador.
Partners of the Americas is a non-profit international grassroots network that creates opportunities for individuals, institutions, and communities to discover how they can change our world through service, leadership, and by building relationships across the Americas. The Sustainable Network Training Program will support the work of our Chapters by training the next generation of leaders, or Network Innovators, who will be the direct beneficiaries of the training. Through the training, the Network Innovators will ultimately impact hundreds of individuals living in their local communities as well as their Chapter’s partner communities in Latin America.
