About Me: I have dedicated my life's work on four continents to creating a more socially just world with a sustainable future. As a World Bank consultant, I worked to mitigate the environmental and social impacts of extractive industry in the Brazilian Amazon and, in West Africa, helped a nation rebuild its physical and social infrastructure after its war for independence from a colonial power. With UNICEF, I worked in slum upgrading projects in Rio de Janeiro, using a community participatory model to provide the basic urban services of sanitation (water and sewage), street paving, storm water drainage infrastructure, solid waste collection systems, public lighting, hillside stabilization and reforestation. In the United States, I have worked at all levels of government: Municipal, with New York City Parks Department where I managed an $80 million capital campaign program to revitalize urban watersheds and the City’s second largest park; State, with the Massachusetts Coastal Zone Management program; and Federal, with the National Park Service.
Partners of the Americas is a non-profit international grassroots network that creates opportunities for individuals, institutions, and communities to discover how they can change our world through service, leadership, and by building relationships across the Americas. The Sustainable Network Training Program will support the work of our Chapters by training the next generation of leaders, or Network Innovators, who will be the direct beneficiaries of the training. Through the training, the Network Innovators will ultimately impact hundreds of individuals living in their local communities as well as their Chapter’s partner communities in Latin America.
