MEET THE CP

Coral Z.

Tucson, AZ

About Me: Hi I'm Coral and I graduated from Elon University in North Carolina in 2009. I majored in International Studies and Latin American Studies. I was able to study abroad 3 times but by far the largest influence in my life was the semester I spent in Costa Rica. I was able to attend the Clinton Foundation's Clinton Global Initiative university conference my junior year of college and I made a commitment to help improve access to education in Latin America and that's why connecting with Citizen Effect was the perfect way for me to work on my goals. In my free time I love photography, Latin Ballroom dancing, reading and scrapbooking. I recently moved to Tucson,AZ and am continuing my education work here working on projects helping Title I schools with their after school tutoring programs. I was also recently accepted into my graduate program to start very soon on my M.Ed. Last year I sold my photography from Latin America to support my first CP project in Ica City, Peru. I hope to continue this for the 2010 holiday season. Updates will soon be available for the photography as well. Thank you for your continued support of my CP projects, and I look forward with your help to continue impacting the lives of youth around Latin America!

PROJECT SUMMARY

Colegio San Antonio's Centro de Atención Externa (Youth Outreach Center or CAE) in Peru's Subtanjalla District is currently operating in temporary buildings. These structures composed of particle board walls and thatched roofs have only limited electricity and entirely lack running water. To extend the center's mission to meet the basic needs of the area's impoverished and at-risk children, the CAE must be equipped with proper materials and resources. This project will fund equipment for a multipurpose classroom in the center where workshops, recreational activities, and group sessions for children will be held. The room will have tables, chair, desks, a television, and a DVD player. This classroom will create a comfortable and safe area for CAE program activities and foster a learning environment to promote active participation in the community.
